Prescription delivery options for patients in isolation

Information on how to get your prescription if you can’t get to the pharmacy.

Isolation and social distancing measures set out by the Government are crucial to reducing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). To protect yourself, our patients and pharmacy teams, and the wider community, we ask that you don’t visit your local pharmacy if:

If you fall into one of the above categories, here’s how you can make sure you still get your prescription.

1. Ask a friend, relative or neighbour for help

Asking a friend, relative or neighbour to collect your prescription on your behalf should, where possible, be your first option. The pharmacy may ask for the patient's proof of ID, so please ask them to take this with them.

2. Ask a local volunteer group for support

If you don’t have a friend or relative nearby who can help you out, someone in your community may be able to lend a hand. Across the UK, groups have been set up by local people to support those who need it most. These may be formal schemes organised by your local council, or local community groups and neighbours working together.

Your council website may have more information about what support is available locally.

3. Our online prescription delivery service

We offer an online prescription delivery service, to get your NHS repeat prescription delivered to your door. Simply order your prescription, and once we have approval from your GP, pay or upload your proof of exemption. Your order will be sent from our online pharmacy, based in Stoke-on-Trent. Delivery is free, and only takes a few days. This service is only available in England.

4. NHS Volunteer Responders

If you are not able to ask a friend or relative to collect your prescriptions for you, and no one in your local community is able to help, an NHS Volunteer Responder may be able to deliver your prescription. Get in touch with your local pharmacy, and they will be able to tell you more about this scheme. This option is only available to people who are over 70, or who have been identified as extremely clinically vulnerable.

5. Home delivery service

Our home delivery service is available from many, but not all, of our pharmacies across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It will be delivered by one of our local drivers and will come from your local Well pharmacy.

This service is only available to the most vulnerable in local communities, who cannot get to their pharmacy. We urge people to only use this option when they are unable to leave their household and no volunteer can be found. This means we’re able to help those who need it most. If you feel this applies to you, please speak to your pharmacist for more information.
