How we work with the NHS

We work with the NHS in two key ways. Firstly, we work with your GP to make sure that you get your prescriptions on time, without any fuss, and to resolve any problems you might have with medicines you're taking. Secondly, we work with the NHS to help improve the health and wellbeing of people across the UK.

How we work with your GP

Our pharmacists can often help you with any questions you might have about your medicine, and can help you to manage your prescriptions. In some cases, we can request prescriptions from your GP on your behalf.

If you use our app or website to order your medicine for delivery, we send your prescription request directly to your GP and oversee the approval process.

If you're taking a new medicine, or on a long-term medicine, you could have a medicine review with your Well pharmacist, who can then discuss any problems you're having with your GP, saving you a trip to the doctor. Find out more about medicine reviews.

Our work with the NHS

Our pharmacists provide a number of services in store – for example flu jabs and blood pressure checks – to help reduce pressure on GP surgeries and free up doctors' appointments.

In local communities, some of our pharmacists work with other organisations to improve relationships between patients, GP surgeries, hospitals and pharmacies. These groups include:

  • Local Pharmaceutical Committees
  • Regional NHS teams and Clinical Commissioning Groups
  • Medicines Safety Groups
  • Health Boards

We also work with the NHS on campaigns throughout the year to help improve the health and wellbeing of people across the country, such as Stoptober. By supporting the NHS with these campaigns, we help to drive down the cost of prescriptions and hospital admissions.
