Alcohol misuse

We can help you identify if you drinking is becoing a problem and offer advice on how to cut down

Drinking too much alcohol can be harmful to your health.

If you’re concerned about your alcohol consumption, we’re here to help. Our pharmacists can talk to you about your use of alcohol, and how you can safely reduce any harm to your health.

How much alcohol is safe?

The NHS recommends men and women drink no more than 14 units per week - and not all in one go! It’s suggested that women have a maximum of 2-3 units per day, and men have 3-4 units. If you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you don’t drink any alcohol.

A half-pint of low-average strength beer or cider contains about 1 unit of alcohol, as does a single shot of 40% strength spirit. The NHS has more information on calculating alcohol units.
