Well Pharmacy offers protection this winter with flu jabs
t's not too late to get your Flu jab
With temperatures set to plummet over the next few days, we are advising people there is still time to get their flu jab and stay protected this winter.
While many GP clinics for flu vaccination have now finished, jabs are still available from the majority of local pharmacists and are offered free of charge for people aged 65 and over and those considered at risk*.
Rachael Sharples, our Healthcare Development Manager, said: “With the weather forecast to turn very cold, it is really important people make sure they are protected from the illness. It is especially important to get the jab if you are aged 65 or over or have a long-term condition like diabetes, because you are at higher risk of the effects of the flu.
“The flu jab is really nothing to worry about – you will be asked a few questions to check the jab is suitable for you before having it administered by an accredited pharmacist in the privacy of the consultation room. Anyone over the age of 18 can simply drop into their local pharmacy and ask for the jab, with no appointment necessary.”
The flu jab is free for anyone aged 65 or over and those aged between 18 and 64 who fall into one of the high risk categories which includes pregnancy and carers.
High risk categories include:
- Lung disease
- Heart disease
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Neurological disease
- Weakened immune system
To be eligible to have the flu jab in one of our pharmacies you must not:
- Have had the seasonal flu vaccination in the last 6 months
- Be suffering from an infection or be feeling unwell
- Have suffered a reaction to the flu jab in the past
